I’ve been looking for a challenge or two to do for 2018 since the beginning of December (because five kids, starting up a blog, packing and moving isn’t enough of a challenge for me in January alone) haha!
I first found the goodreads challenge which you basically set yourself a goal of how many books you will read in the year, so I’ve set myself a target of 30 books.
It wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, I wanted something different!
Since 2016 when I started up my Online business, I’ve been working more on myself so my reads have been more on the personal development side and that is basically all I’ve been reading – it’s obviously not a bad thing to do, working on yourself, but you just know when you need something more…
I’ve missed the fantasy and thrillers, the Fairytale and true stories, the chance to be lost in another world – you know the ones – and the enticement of the book world is just too great to ignore for very long.
I found it!
I found exactly what I need to get me back into the world of books :-
The Popsugar Challenge!!
Not only is this going to grow my reading experience again, but I will be experiencing books I would never normally read, such as sports and feminism – if it’s the new age feminism stuff then, yuck!
I’m in love with the idea of the challenge and I’ve made a start with my reading challenge and my first book of choice is: The Colour of Magic written by Terry Pratchett, I love his books and I found 3 of his while packing the house up, all brand new I’d bought a couple of years back that I never got round to, so it was the perfect book to begin with.
The fact it falls under three of the categories helped – although I’ll not be cheating myself out of the challenge by marking one book as three – no point in doing it that way really is there?!
If you want to join me and many others in the Popsugar reading Challenge, here’s the list you’ll be needing for 2018
Have you joined in any challenges for 2018? Or even set your own? Let me know in the comments, I’m always looking for new things to get involved in.
Much Love
Laura xx
I used to read a lot of books. But now,I donโt recall when was the last time I read a book. I challenge myself, to read at least five this year. Hopefully more.
I hope you do well with your challenge, keep us updated. Even opening 1 book after so long away from them will be good for you ๐
Good luck on the challenge! ๐ Iโm still not sure I will be participating on any this year, but I will still be keeping tabs just in case.
Thank you ๐น
Wow that’s a challenge and a half, well done for attempting it. I miss reading, I used to read loads but have fallen out of the habit recently. I’d like to read a book a month, but that goal depends on my fatigue levels, if I’m too tired I just fall asleep and that’s no good!!! Good luck on the challenge x
๐ it did look abit overwhelming at first but i think its reasonable haha. Aw yes try give it ago, a book a month is a good target goal if you want to get back in to reading ๐น good luck with it!
Love the idea! I read, I will consider myself a reader but I havenโt been INTO a book or series in a long long time! I should start though! This seems like a good start for the year
Let me know how you get on if you take up the challenge ๐น good luck with it ๐
I did the goodreads book challenge a few years ago was great and plan to do.it again this year! x
Aw fab, yes it’s good to set yourself a goal of books to read even if you don’t get through them all, at least you got some reading in ๐
Yo, this is REALLY cool. I hadnโt heard of this challenge. I put my goodreads goal at 26 this year, trying to make the time to read again. I think I might actually take this challenge as well! Thanks for sharing!
Your welcome. Glad it’s an inspiration to get back into books ๐ good luck!
I love this. Iโm planning on doing a lot of reading this year, but none of them are fiction books! And we have bookshelves upon bookshelves of them. I might have to think about doing something like this.
Hope it goes well for you ๐ I think it’s a good challenge if you haven’t read much and want to get back into it ๐น
This looks like a great reading challenge. Iโve start myself of reading 50 books this year, Iโm currently two down. Look forward to seeing how you get on with yours xx

Wow your doing well. I’m almost half way through my first but once I’ve moved I’ll get more read I’m sure. ๐ค
I used to read a lot, but I just do not seem to get the time โ my own fault as I tend to sneak in some youtube or netflix before I go to sleep โ the kids hog the tv and now they are getting older and up later, its the only time I get for things I want to watch. Think I may start taking a book to work and read a bit on my lunch break. The last series I really enjoyed was by Samantha Shannon โ The Bone season series and I think I have one of those to read. I havenโt seen this challenge and think its something I could add to my bullet journal as a spread xx
A fab place to start if you already have one ready to read, it may get you back into books ๐ bullet journals are always good for challenges, they seem to keep your focus on them more! ๐น
I’ve set myself a challenge of 30 days so started with READING, then next month will be exercising everyday… then do yoga .. and so on.. if you want to have a read its also on my blog.. LET 2018 be the year hahah
Well done, hope your challenges go well ๐น I will certainly have a look at your blog… may give me a couple more ideas of challenges to take on myself ๐
How about Reading about DIY-Healthcare?
Rare Earths: Forbidden Cures
Passport to Aromatherapy
Fat For Fuel
Eat Fat Get Thin
I want to read Rare Earths and passport to Aromatherapy (a hard one to get on Amazon) ๐น
I used to finish 2-3 books a week and now it takes me 2-4 weeks (or longer!) just to finish one. I love this idea, thank you!
Your welcome. I’ve been the same, I’m not doing bad (I don’t think) so far ๐
Itโs been so long since I last read a book and I think itโs time to start back. Whatever it takes! I like this challenge but I donโt know if I can finish the whole list. However, I challenge myself to read at least 10 books from this list this year. Good luck to you!
Hope you manage to get you 10 books read ๐น thank you.
Hey, You have an amazing and creative blog and I really enjoyed reading your articles. I nominated you for the Liebster Award!
Find out about your next steps here: http://waitmarinawho.blogspot.tw/2018/01/ive-been-nominated-for-liebster-award.html
Thank you very much Marina ๐น
Good luck Laura! I’ve missed reading since having my kids so fair play to you for setting yourself this challenge. The colour of magic was the first Terry Pratchett boom I ever read. It’s brilliant ๐ xx
i’m enjoying it so far ๐ I’ve missed the craziness of Terry Pratchett’s Mind! haha x
That is a great challenge! I don’t usually get into these challenges because I read a LOT and I very in style and type of books, but this is so versatile! I’m sure you will love it.
Good goal. I really should try this as I need to get back into reading.
I left reading many years ago. Having 4 children was enough to keep me busy and although I sometimes wanted something to read I didn’t exactly know what that genre was. My daughter brought me a small box of books from a thrift store one day last year and I first read the 2nd book in The Bregdon Chronicles by Ginny Dye. I fell in love and knew I had found the genre I had been thinking about. I have read the following 9 books and many others in historical fiction and historical romance. No challenge needed.
That’s quite a challenge! The only reading challenge I have this year is to read one book a month. Nearly finished my January book. I used to read so much more, so may be I can increase it to two a month!

I like personal development books. Those are the kinds I like to read the most. I don’t have a challenge this year to read more, but I do want to challenge myself in ways that will boost my confidence a little. That might include reading a little more. ๐
Challenge is something si exciting, I never tried except for the Ice bucket challenge lol. but seriously I would love to give it a try at least for a change.
This looks like a great challenge, I do hope you manage to smash it! I need to make a little more time to read, because I do really find it enjoyable and relaxing!
My reading goal for this year is 18 books. Last year I only read 3 out of my 17 books. Good luck!
I love reading. I always have to have a new book! I love this reading challenge. I think I will twist things up this year and go for a Reading Challenge. I will download and print the list so I can tick off categories as I go.
I really have a goal of reading more in 2018! I really did not pick up as many books as I wanted to this past year.
